At Aceso Health Clinic, we provide evidence-based medical nutrition therapy which can be used by healthy populations for maintaining a balanced diet or by people who are suffering from different health conditions.

This treatment is covered by most of extended health benefit plans and is provided by our Registered Dietitian, who is specialized in nutrition and dietetics, and typically involves a thorough assessment of the patient’s nutritional status and medical history to determine their specific nutritional needs and goals.

Based on this assessment, the registered dietitian will develop a personalized nutrition plan that is tailored to the patient’s individual needs and preferences. The registered dietitian will work closely with the patient to implement the nutrition plan, which may involve dietary modifications, such as increasing or decreasing specific nutrients or food groups.

The dietitian will also provide ongoing support and education to help the patient make sustainable lifestyle changes that promote better health.

Medical nutrition therapy may be used to manage a variety of health conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, gastrointestinal disorders, food allergies and intolerances, and obesity. The dietitian may also provide counselling and support to patients who are undergoing cancer treatment, as well as those who have had bariatric surgery.

What is the difference between a Registered Dietitian and a Nutritionist?

The public may assume that dietitians and nutritionists are one and the same; but in British Columbia “nutritionist” is not a regulated health profession. Only qualified nutrition professionals who are registered with a regulatory body, such as the College of Dietitians of British Columbia, may call themselves dietitians. To be registered in B.C., dietitians must have a five-year university degree in nutrition with at least 1250 hours of supervised, hands-on training, and pass a national competence examination.
