Frequently Asked Questions

What are custom foot orthotics and what are the benefits?

Custom-made orthotics are prescribed to align the feet and ankle into the most efficient anatomical position and assist with the correction of biomechanical abnormalities in the feet, ankle, knee and back. Custom foot orthotics not only provide cushion and arch support, but have many other benefits such as providing the right support needed, alleviating and preventing pain and injury, improving foot function, correcting foot abnormalities and enhancing sport performance.

What is the difference between custom foot orthotics versus over-the-counter or kiosk orthotics?

Since over-the-counter or kiosk orthotics are made by shoe size, they are not customized to your feet. Many people who do not have standard-sized or symmetrical feet can encounter problems. They also do not provide specific corrections and can cause problems in long run.

Do I need orthotics if I don’t have any foot pain?

Foot pain is not necessarily a complaint for patients who can benefit form custom-made foot orthotics because symptoms are often referred to structures away from the feet, such as ankle, knees, and/or lower back.

How much do custom orthotics cost?

Most extended health insurance plans cover custom orthotics between $300-500 every year or every 2 years. You can contact your provider directly for more information on your plan’s coverage. The fee for a pair of custom-made orthotics is $500, which includes a biomechanical assessment, gait analysis, casting or 3D digital scanning, diagnosis, reports of finding, custom orthotics and fitting.

What to expect on your first visit?

The initial appointment will be approximately 30 minutes, which includes full examination, consultation, analysis and 3D digital scanning to be sent to our orthotics lab.

How long do my orthotics last?

Depending on use and with typical wear and tear, it is generally recommended to change your orthotics every 1-2 years.

How long does it take to have custom foot orthotics manufactured?

It takes approximately 2 weeks for the custom-made orthotics to be ready and we will contact you to book a fitting appointment as soon as we receive them. This appointment is included in the cost and takes approximately 10-15 minutes. The fitting appointment is our final step to ensure proper fit, function and customer satisfaction.
